DESCRIPTION
Renin, an aspartic endopeptidase, and a member of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), controls extracellular volume (i.e. blood plasma, lymph and interstitial fluid), and arterial vasoconstriction. It converts angiotensinogen to angiotensin I which is subsequently cleaved by ACE to angiotensin II. Excess activity can cause hypertension making it an important drug target for inhibition.
