Factor IX which plays a vital role in the coagulation cascade, is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease. Factor IX is produced in the liver as an inactive precursor and is activated either by factor XIa or by factor VIIa. In the presence of calcium ions and anionic phospholipids, activated factor IX (FIXa) binds to the activated Factor VIII (FVIIIa) , forming the Tenase complex on cell surfaces. This complex then converts factor X (FX) to factor Xa (FXa) which produces thrombin from prothrombin, creating a mesh that seals wounds.  AlrivisBio’s Factor IXa Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure Factor IXa in serum samples with a sensitivity below 10 pg of FIXa.
