myo-Inositol is a carbocyclic sugar that is a structural element of some lipids. It integrates into cell membranes as phosphatidylinositol (PI), ensuring structural integrity and anchoring surface proteins. PI can also convert into PIP₂, which is cleaved into diacylglycerol and IP₃. These second messengers trigger calcium release to regulate metabolism, cell growth, and glycogen breakdown. Myo-inositol drives glucose uptake via GLUT4 activation, while d-chiro-inositol promotes glycogen storage. Deficiencies drive insulin resistance and Type 2 diabetes. AkrivisBio’s myo-Inositol Assay provides a simple, sensitive method for determination of inositol in biological samples with a sensitivity below as 20 pmoles.
