DESCRIPTION

Glutamate Carboxypeptidase II also known as NAALADase, prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) or folate hydrolase (FOLH1)] is a membrane-bound zinc-metalloenzyme with roles in neurobiology and cancer progression. It is highly expressed in the nervous system, prostate, kidney and jejunal brush border membranes. In the CNS, it hydrolyzes NAAG, the 3rd most prevalent neurotransmitter, forming glutamate. Upregulation can result in glutamate excitotoxicity, leading to neuronal damage and death. In the prostate, Highly expressed in carcinoma, it is a key diagnostic and therapeutic target. It is also highly upregulated in IBD implicating it in the etiology of this disease. AkrivisBio’s PicoSense Glutamate Carboxypeptidase II Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure GCPII activity in a variety of sample types with a sensitivity well below 1 µUnit per well.
