Factor XIII also known as fibrin stabilizing factor is a part of the blood coagulation cascade that polymerizes fibrin. Factor XIII is functionally a circulating plasma transglutaminase which is activated by thrombin in the presence of calcium. XIIIa (activated Factor XIII acts on fibrin forming amide bonds between gamma-glutamyl carboxyl groups and epsilon-lysyl amines forming a solid, insoluble clot. Genetic mutations decreases or eliminates fibrin clot formation and stability causing bleeding disorders. AkrivisBio’s Factor XIIIa Activity Assay is a simple sensitive kit which utilizes Factor XIII’s transglutaminase activity resulting in a decrease of ammonia which is measured colorimetrically with a sensitivity below 0.1 Loewy U) from plasma and purified protein samples.
