DESCRIPTION

Peroxisomes are single-membrane–bound vesicular organelles, typically 0.1–1.5 μm in diameter, found in the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells, especially in metabolically active tissues such as liver and kidney, containing a dense protein matrix enriched in oxidative enzymes important for oxidative metabolism, lipid processing, and detoxification reactions. In plants, specialized peroxisomes participate in photorespiration and in converting stored fatty acids to carbohydrates during seed germination. Peroxisomes form by fission of pre‑existing organelles or by de novo biogenesis from the endoplasmic reticulum, processes governed by peroxin (PEX) proteins. AkrivisBio’s Peroxisome Isolation Kit enables the isolation of intact peroxisomes using a differential centrifugation procedure. PLEASE NOTE THAT ACCESS TO AN ULTRACENTRIFUGE IS REQUIRED FOR THIS PROCEDURE.
