DESCRIPTION

Cathepsin L, a lysosomal cysteine protease, plays a role in cell metabolism and has significant implications for several physiological and pathological processes. It is involved in protein degradation and turnover, making it an essential component of cellular recycling mechanisms. Cathepsin L has been found to regulate metabolic networks controlling rapid cell growth and proliferation. Cathepsin L has been found to be linked to glycolytic metabolism, regulating glycolytic enzyme levels, fatty acid metabolism and related pro-inflammatory mediators, and autophagy and lysosomal function in protein turnover. Altered Cathepsin L activity has been associated with cancer, cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes. AkrivisBio’s Cathepsin L Activity Assay is a simple sensitive means of measuring Cathepsin L in a cells with a sensitivity below 5 µUnits per well.
