Alanyl aminopeptidase, also known as aminopeptidase N, APN and CD13 is a Zn2+-dependent membrane-bound enzyme, found primarily in the small intestine, kidney, immune cells and vascular endothelium. Its main function is the removal of neutral N-terminal amino acids, from peptides. It is involved in a variety of roles including: a) hydrolyzing peptides that regulate vascular tone and kidney function, b) as a cell surface marker on myelomonocytic cells and expressed on activated T-cells, suggesting a modulatory role in immune response, c) as a cellular receptor for several coronaviruses and d) participation in antioxidant activities and detoxification and inflammation pathways and GSH metabolism. Dysregulation of alanyl aminopeptidase is associated with colorectal cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, hypertension, kidney disorders, neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmunity and inflammatory conditions. AkrivisBio’s Alanyl Aminopeptidase Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to monitor enzyme activity in biological samples with a sensitivity below 100 µUnits per well.
