Tissue plasminogen Activator, frequently referred to as t-PA or PLAT, is a serine protease that functions as part of the fibrinolytic system in the blood. It is most frequently found bound to endothelial cells in the vascular system where it acts to breakdown blood clots by activating plasmin. t-PA also has been found to have roles in neuronal plasticity, tissue remodeling and as part of a metabolic stress response. Synthetic t-PA has been successfully used as treatment for acute ischemic stroke, myocardial infarct and pulmonary embolism. AkrivisBio’s Tissue Plasminogen Activator Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive means of measuring t-PA activity in biological samples like plasma and serum with a sensitivity in the very low µUnit range.
