Proteasomes are very large (20S, 26S) protein assemblies found in both the nucleus and cytoplasm of all eukaryotes and some prokaryotes. They degrade and recycle proteins previously tagged with ubiquitin. These ubiquitinylated proteins are cleaved into short peptides which are subsequently further degraded. The core 20S complex, a cylindrical protein complex of 4 stacked rings is the functional structure with chymotrypsin-, trypsin- and caspase-like proteolytic activities. AkrivisBio’s Proteasome Activity Assay is a simple, sensitive way to measure proteasome activity in biological samples. An included inhibitor permits proteasome activity determination, distinct from other protease activity, with a sensitivity below 0.1 µUnits.
