DESCRIPTION

L-Arginase, a member of the urea cycle, catalyzes the hydrolysis of L-arginine to produce urea and L-ornithine, primarily in the liver. Excess ammonia nitrogen is converted to urea for excretion. A side effect of L-arginase is to reduce the availability of arginine for nitric oxide synthase, which can affect the vascular tone and blood flow. Arginase is also upregulated in some forms of cancer and so has become a potential druggable target in cancer therapy. AkrivisBio’s L-arginase Assay is a simple, sensitive means of measuring L-arginase enzyme activity in a variety of biological sample types with a sensitivity below 1 mU.
