Naringenin is a flavonoid compound found in various fruits, particularly in citrus fruits like oranges, grapefruits, and lemons. It acts as an antioxidant, free radical scavenger, and carbohydrate metabolism promoter. It shows cytotoxicity in various human cell lines and promotes apoptosis in rat C6 glioma model. Naringenin seems to protect LDL-receptor deficient mice from the obesity effects of a high-fat diet. Also lowers the plasma and hepatic cholesterol concentrations by suppressing HMG-CoA reductase
