Fatty acids are an important source of energy, as structural components and as precursors to a variety of bioactive chemicals collectively referred to as oxylipins with a diverse set of biological actions, including pro- and anti-inflammatory, vasoactive, autocrine and paracrine functions. High levels of free fatty acids have been associated with conditions including obesity, diabetes, liver diseases etc. AkrivisBio’s Fatty Acid Assay is a simple and sensitive assay to measure free fatty acids in various sample types. The assay is based upon the conversion of fatty acids to CoA derivatives, which are subsequently oxidized to form color/fluorescence that is quantified at OD 570 nm or at Ex/Em = 535/587 nm respectively. The intensity of color/fluorescence is proportional to the concentration of free fatty acid in samples.
